Poori

Poori is a deep fried bread made from whole-wheat flour,It is eaten for breakfast or as a snack or light meal. It is usually served with a savory curry or bhaji, as in Poori bhaji, but may also be eaten with sweet dishes.


Ingredients:

2 cup wheat flour 
1 tbsp semolina / Rawa
1 tsp oil
Salt to taste 
Warm milk or water about 175 ml or as required
oil for deep frying

Directions:

1. In a  mixing bowl, put 2 cups of wheat flour, 1 tbsp semolina, salt to taste and 1 tsp oil.  

 2. Next add about 175 ml warm milk or water, or as  required to knead into a  tight dough.

3. make small lemon sized balls between your palms and roll the dough evenly into circles using rolling pin. 

4. Roll neither too thin nor too thick and If its sticking to the rolling pin grease the ball with oil on both sides ( see notes).

5.Next heat oil in a deep bottom pan, when the oil is sufficiently hot, drop in the rolled out poori and press gently with the spoon to puff up. Turn the poori over, fry for about 40 to 50 seconds on each side on medium flame or until golden brown & done.

Finally, drain the poori on a paper towel, to remove excess oil and serve hot pooris with Potato Bhaji or Chana masala.



Recipe Notes:
  • Do not keep the pooris for long after rolling, make sure to fry them with 5 mins after making or else it will get to dry and not Puff.
